Casa Bonita, a Mexican restaurant made famous by the “South Park” TV show, will not be sold to show creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker.
The restaurant’s parent company, Summit Family Restaurant Inc., told TMZ it had no plans to sell despite filing for bankruptcy in April. The restaurant – which can seat more than 1,000 people – has been closed since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
Originally a chain, Casa Bonita maintains a remaining location in Lakewood, Colorado, which the city designated as a historic landmark in 2015.
Parker and Stone have said in the past that they would be keen to buy the place if it becomes available, and Summit has told the website that they will be at the top of the buyers list if plans change.
“We want to buy Casa Bonita and treat it properly. I feel like it was overlooked even before the pandemic, ”Parker told The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday. “We’re going to do whatever we can. We want to do it right and make it amazing.
News of the potential purchase was met mainly with enthusiasm by the Coloradans. The animators, once left out of the mainstream culture for the show’s scorching, anti-establishment humor, have now found themselves fully embraced.
“Well that would be some funny news from Jefferson County,” said the County official Twitter account in response to the idea.

The restaurant has achieved cult status among diehard “South Park” fans for its frequent references in the series.
A 2003 episode titled “Casa Bonita” focused exclusively on the restaurant and a plan by show antagonist Eric Cartman to secure a dinner invitation by tricking another attendee into thinking the world was over. The episode is regularly listed as one of the series’ top fan favorites.
Casa Bonita also made an appearance in 2017 in the “South Park” inspired video game “The Fractured but Whole”.
“South Park” has premiered over 300 episodes and is now in its 23rd season, making it one of the most successful television shows in US history. The show regularly addresses social and political issues that divide the United States and won the Peabody Prize for Social Commentary in 2005.
