Southbound 101 closed after the man was hit by several cars

Highway 101 southbound is closed in San Jose near the intersection with Interstate 880 after a man jumped from a railway crossing and died after being hit. by several cars on the highway, reported the California Highway Patrol.

Officer Ross Lee said that several vehicles had hit the man and did not stop after he had jumped from 10th Street, crossing about 10 am in the morning. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner's office is currently responding to the scene.

Highway 101 southbound is diverted to Highway 880 southbound and vehicles may return on Highway 101 to 13th and Commercial Streets.

The CHP did not determine the number of cars that hit the man, but is looking for witnesses who may have seen the vehicles leave.

There is currently no estimated time of opening for the southbound lanes of Highway 101.
