Southwest Airlines said Monday it has agreed to buy 100 of Boeing’s 737 Max 7s as it plans to retire the older planes.
The Dallas-based low-cost airline said as part of the deal it would convert 70 of its firm orders for Max 8 planes into the smaller planes, the Max 7. It also added 155 options for them. 737 Max 7 or Max 8 planes until 2029.
“This profitable backlog with Boeing enables the company to maintain the operational efficiency of a fully Boeing 737 fleet to support its low-cost point-to-point route network,” Southwest said in a statement. The airline only operates Boeing 737s.
