Winter storms and mechanical over 400 flight cancellations by Southwest Airlines and about 1,000 more delays were at the root of the problem.

The country's largest national carrier saw an unusually high number of aircraft grounded for a week, possibly aggravated by a labor dispute between the airline and the mechanics' union.

Today, more flights across the United States have been canceled. Southwest Flights responded to a complaint from an individual on Twitter who was experiencing flight problems:

While snow in southern Nevada may be causing delays and cancellations to and from Las Vegas, mechanical problems have also resulted in the removal of hundreds of aircraft from a service since last week.

Exclusive acquisition of CBS News pics showing what the mechanics describe as a so-worn landing gear, a plane was stopped Wednesday.

The airline declared an "operational emergency" and ordered all maintenance personnel to report for work to put the aircraft into service.
