CHICAGO (CBS13) – The new documents obtained by CBS News show the situation at Southwest Airlines is worse than previously known. At various times last week, more than 60,737 of the southwestern parts of the country were taken out of service by mechanics for unplanned maintenance. The airline said the "unplanned aircraft downtime" had increased in several maintenance centers, among others.
Southwest said that since February 12, the average UAD in Orlando has reached 60 hours a year day versus an average of 10.2 hours a day in the last two years. In Houston, the UAD spent an average of 18.6 hours a day at 111 hours on February 12, and then at 127 the next day.
