The Department of the Air Force has announced the six candidate locations being considered for the US Space Command headquarters.

The six locations include Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico, Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska, Patrick Air Force Base in Florida, Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado, Port San Antonio, Texas; and Redstone Army Airfield in Alabama, the Air Force Department said in a statement.

“Self-proclaimed communities in twenty-four states have been assessed as potential locations to host the siege,” officials added.

Virtual and on-site visits will now be carried out in the six candidate sites before the choice of the headquarters site.

“This assessment will be based on factors related to the mission, infrastructure capacity, community support and costs to the Department of Defense,” he said in the statement.

The Space Command headquarters will be selected in early 2021. Until then, Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs will remain the Command’s interim headquarters.

“Colorado Springs is without a doubt the ideal location to serve as a permanent home for US Space Command, given our incredible quality of life, five military installations, a large existing talent base and our experience as a community.” which has long supported the American armed forces ”. Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers said in an emailed statement to Fox News. “In addition to these assets, we already have the infrastructure to host this operation, and many of USSPACECOM’s future leaders will be trained right here at the US Air Force Academy.

Arizona lawmakers, led by Republican MP Debbie Lesko and Democratic Senator Kyrsten Sinema, had been pushing for Space Command headquarters to be in their state.
