Space lovers continue to wait for the 41,000-foot flight of SpaceX’s Starship SN8

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas – Space enthusiasts must wait a few more days to potentially see SpaceX’s Mars-bound vehicle pass a 12.5 km flight test.

This would be the first high altitude test for the Starship prototypes. Starting next week, the Starship SN8 prototype is slated to fly 41,010 feet at SpaceX’s launch facility in Boca Chica, Texas. Many space-lovers gather on South Padre Island to watch.

In the latest documents filed with the FAA, there is a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) filed with the FAA for a 12.5 km flight.

Meanwhile, fans line up Isla Blanca Park, hoping to catch the launch.

The Norton family came from Pennsylvania with their motorhome.

“He continues to be pushed back because of the weather, but we’re excited because we’re going to be here to cheer him on,” said Bret Norton.

The family campervan spot turns out to be a great viewing area for the launch.

“It’s so cool how these things fit together,” said Staci Norton, Bret Norton’s wife.

Their daughter, Aubrey Norton, is a huge space fan.

“I want to be an astronaut and the first girl on Mars,” Aubrey said.

Staci Norton said the space program inspires the younger generation.

“The fact that she’s interested… it’s not something that interests me growing up or anything like that, it has to be things that they incorporate into the world,” Staci Norton said.

For now, the flight is expected to take place as early as December 7, although this is subject to weather conditions and other factors that have previously delayed the planned launch schedule.
