Elon Musk’s SpaceX is used to staring at the stars, but his latest project is more firmly established here on Earth. In addition to marketing reusable rockets and flying humans on Mars, the rocket company appears to be turning a small village in South Texas into a luxury space-themed resort.

According to a new job posting on its website, SpaceX is looking for an experienced Resort Development Director to lead a massive construction project in Boca Chica, a once-sheltered beach town near the Starship launch site of the society.

“Boca Chica Village is our latest launch site dedicated to Starship, our next generation launcher. SpaceX is committed to making this city a 21st century spaceport, ”the job ad read. “We are looking for a talented Resort Development Manager to oversee the development of SpaceX’s first complex from inception to completion.”

The position requires a bachelor’s degree and more than five years of experience in construction project management. Preferred skills include work experience for “developing high-end luxury brands” and “developing in areas without previous infrastructure”. And, like everyone else working for Elon Musk, the ideal candidate would be better off being prepared to work long hours and weekends as needed, the job posting states.

SpaceX has not confirmed plans to develop a luxury resort in Boca Chica. If such a project is underway, it is still in its early stages, judging by the job posting. In addition to a Complex Manager, SpaceX is also looking for a Temporary Spaceport Development Specialist to “assist in all aspects of the implementation of the project to build the Boca Chica launch site in need, including aesthetic improvements to industrial design.

SpaceX chose Boca Chica as the test and launch site for its spacecraft colonizing Mars Starship in 2014. SpaceX’s entry met strong resistance from local residents as the rocket company forces them to register. with the county, to wear badges and sometimes to be evacuated on launch days, which happens once a month and is becoming more and more frequent.

While SpaceX built the Starship project, the company also bought land around Boca Chica, giving local owners three times the appraised value of their property. Many residents took the money and moved out. But there are still some resistance fighters. Some homeowners have complained that SpaceX’s appraisals do not reflect the fair market value of their home.

Starship is SpaceX’s ultimate space vehicle that is believed to transport humans to the Moon, Mars, and beyond. To date, the company has built six prototypes of the Starship with mixed test results.

On August 4, the last full-size Starship prototype, SN5, performed a “jump” for the first time and flew approximately 40 seconds in the sky.
