Matthew Perry says the cast is expected to reunite for the HBO Max special in March.
The year 2021 could be the one with the friends Special Meeting.
Matthew perry tweeted Thursday that the HBO Max special, which has been delayed for several months due to the coronavirus pandemic, is scheduled to film in March. That would likely put the show on track in the spring.
Sources say The Hollywood Reporter that while the plans are still being finalized, the goal is to film the reunion special in the first part of the New Year.
That timeline would put the special about a year later than its scheduled start date. The reunion special was slated to be part of HBO Max’s launch in May, heralding the move of Netflix’s beloved comedy to the streaming platform WarnerMedia.
The pandemic delayed that, and it was pushed back from a scheduled August filming date. The show’s six stars and the brass of HBO Max all want an in-person meeting on the show’s former home, Stage 24 at the Warner Bros. Field in Burbank, so a virtual meeting isn’t on the line. table.
“We haven’t all been in the same room in front of people – I mean, we did it privately several years ago, but that’s it,” Lisa Kudrow said. The Hollywood Reporter in May. “The point of it all is to be in the same room. It hasn’t changed. And HBO Max is incredibly patient and understanding.”
The reunion special was given an official green light in February this year and was originally scheduled to be filmed in March. HBO Max announced in April that the highly anticipated reunion would miss the streamer’s launch. The special production ceased on March 18, joining hundreds of other film and TV sets around the world to do so.
Dozens of shows have since been restarted, all respecting COVID-19 safety protocols. However, as the number of cases rises again, a number of productions have had to put work on hold after team members tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
