Charter Communications, the second largest cable operator in the United States, is launching an inexpensive streaming television service. For just $ 14.99 a month, subscribers will be able to watch more than 60 live channels on an Apple TV, iOS device, Mac, or other computer.
Spectrum TV Essentials is expected to be operational in March, when it will have to compete with similar services, such as Sling TV and YouTube TV.
"Spectrum TV Essentials is an OTT offering designed to offer Spectrum's Internet-only customers a new, low-cost, high-value video option," said Tom Rutledge, President and Chief Executive Officer of Charter, in a statement.

This OTT (Over The Top) service will include lifestyle, entertainment and information channels, as well as access to all associated content available on demand through these networks.
Offerings include A & E, AMC, Animal Planet, BBC America, BET, Comedy Central, Discovery, DIY, Food Network, Hallmark Channel, HGTV, HISTORY, Lifetime, MTV, Nickelodeon, OWN, Paramount Network, Science Channel, TLC, Channel Travel, TV Land, VH1 and The Weather Channel.
A lot of competition
The high cost of traditional cable service creates a multitude of more affordable options, including this one, which is really in competition with the Charter.
At $ 15 a month, Spectrum TV Essentials will be less expensive than its competitors. Sling TV starts at $ 25 a month, but YouTube TV and DirecTV NOW cost $ 40. Hulu with Live TV will reach $ 45 a month.
The next OTT service offer will only be available to homes already subscribed to the Charter Spectrum Internet Service.
Video-on-demand services such as Netflix are another type of competition for traditional cable. According to rumors, Apple would enter this market later this year.
