Tom Holland’s Spider-Man movies could be coming to Disney Plus. A new announcement for Latin America streaming platform includes clips of Far from home and Back home, starring Holland as Peter Parker and Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark.
Sony Pictures currently owns the rights to Spider-Man, so Disney has previously said it has no plans to add the films to its streaming service. As we’ve seen before, the world is Disney’s oyster.
As reported by Digital Spy, Disney content and marketing manager Ricky Strauss previously said, “We love our friends at Sony, but we don’t plan on doing any action. Spider-Man Movies on Disney Plus.
“We’ll have all the Spider-Man animated shows that we’ve made to be out there under the Marvel banner. But who knows what may happen in the future?”
In other Tom Holland news, he recently started filming Spider-Man 3 in October after production ended. Unexplored – The film adaptation of the video game of the same name will see Holland play protagonist Nathan Drake.
The plot of the third installment of the Spidey franchise remains under wraps, but we know that Jamie Foxx returns to his electro role from 2014 The Incredible Spider-Man 2 (which starred Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker). In a now-deleted Instagram post, Foxx also hinted at a multiverse storyline, with an image of three characters in Spider-Man costumes – intriguing.
This theory is also supported by JK Simmons’ cameo as J. Jonah Jameson in last year’s Far From Home post-credits scene. Simmons is known to have originally played the role in Toby Macguire’s Spider-Man trilogy in the early 2000s, but earlier this year he revealed he had already filmed another appearance as an editor in head of The Daily Bugle.
Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange is also involved, which only strengthens the case for multiverse shenanigans. We have a while to wait to see how that plays out, however, as delays from Covid-19 mean Spider-Man 3 isn’t due out until November 2021. If we’re able to catch up with Tom Holland’s Spidey on Disney More or not, there are plenty of other MCU movies for you to check out on the platform – we’ve even put together a guide on how to watch the Marvel movies in order.
