San Francisco will begin enforcing a curfew on Monday night after California moved the city to the state’s most restrictive “purple” level due to an increase in the number of coronavirus cases, London Mayor’s Race announced Saturday on Twitter.
Driving the news: Breed said the city is currently recording an average of 118 new cases per day, up from 73 per day in the first week of November. The mayor added that the city recorded 768 cases during the week of November 16.
What they say: “As cases continue to climb across California and the rest of the country, this advice is even more important to follow,” Breed tweeted.
- “I don’t know how to be clearer – this is the most dangerous time we have experienced during this pandemic. Do not travel and meet with others,” she added.
- “We all need to do our part, now more than ever, to stop the spread of COVID-19. It means doubling down on what we’ve all done: wear a mask, keep your distance from others, don’t congregate with people outside your household and wash your hands frequently. “
The big picture: Starting at 12:00 p.m. PST on Sundays, city gyms, museums, cinemas and houses of worship are also to suspend indoor activities, while retail stores are to reduce capacity to 25%.
- Schools that are already open for in-person learning may continue and those that have not opened must receive an exemption for in-person instruction.
- The city will impose a curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. until December 21.
