Spike Lee is back in the editing room to watch the latest episode of New York Epicenters 09/11/2021½, his docuseries on the obstacles faced by New York City over the past two decades. He debuted last week on HBO.

The fourth episode, which focuses on the terrorist attacks of September 11, is scheduled for September 11, the 20th anniversary. These episodes raised some eyebrows after the remarks of Brooklyn-born Lee in a New York Times article from last week saying he “still had questions” about the attacks that brought down the World Trade Center Twin Towers, and that his interviews included conspiracy theorists who are convinced the US government was not truthful about what happened that day.

The episode, which weaves an image of September 11, 2001, as it unfolded for New Yorkers on the ground and first responders who rushed to the scene after two hijacked planes were deliberately thrown into buildings. The towers eventually collapsed, killing nearly 3,000 people in the deadliest terrorist attack in history on American soil.

Lee’s interviews included interviews with Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth, a group who believe the Twin Towers were shot down by a controlled explosion, not by planes.

“I’m back in the editing room and watching the eighth and final chapter of NYC EPICENTERS 9 / 11➔2021½,” Lee said in a statement provided by HBO on Wednesday. “I respectfully ask you to keep your judgment until you see the FINAL CUP. I thank you.”

The docuseries also focus on the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement, through the New York lens.

The next episode is Sunday at 6 p.m. ET / 9 p.m. PT.
