Spike Lee’s children named Golden Globe ambassadors

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Spike Lee’s daughter and son have been chosen as Golden Globe Ambassadors to attend the awards ceremony.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced Tuesday morning that Satchel and Jackson Lee will take on ambassadorial roles for the 78th annual Golden Globes Awards in February.

Satchel, 26, and Jackson, 23, are the first brothers and sisters of color to hold the post. Jackson is the first black male ambassador.

Both attributed their maturation to their filmmaker father and mother, Tonya Lewis Lee, who is a film and television producer.

“We are proud to pass on our father’s storytelling legacy to bring attention to the communities we care about,” said Satchel Lee, Creative Director of DRØME, a queer and intersectional arts and culture magazine.

Satchel chose to partner with Callen-Lorde, an organization that helps LGBTQIA + communities with healthcare in New York City. Jackson works in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters, the mentoring network supported by volunteers.

“As a visionary creator, my father taught Satchel and me the importance of entertainment as a cultural catalyst for change,” he said.

Callen-Lorde and Big Brothers Big Sisters will each receive a grant from the HFPA of $ 25,000 paid on behalf of the Lees.

Satchel said that choosing Callen-Lorde and the organization’s health initiatives was important to her to “support the LGBT + community, because this is my community.” Everything I do, I just want to give back to the people and communities who have given me so much.

Jackson said he chose Big Brothers Big Sisters for the purpose of mentoring them in the same way his father had guided him.

“Having my dad as a mentor changed my life,” he says. “To be able to give the opportunity to someone else and to someone younger than me is kind of giving the lead. It’s like a duty that I have to do.

An ambassador is traditionally the child of a celebrity who participates in the awards ceremony, distributes trophies to the winners and accompanies them off the stage.

Previous ambassadors include Pierce Brosnan’s sons Dylan and Paris Brosnan, Idris Elba’s daughter Isan Elba, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s daughter, Simone Garcia.

The Golden Globes ceremony will take place on February 28 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. The show pays homage to the achievements of cinema and television.
