Spirit Airlines has banned for life an American traveler who would have triggered the smoke alarm of a plane after using an electronic cigarette, according to several reports.
During a flight to New Orleans, a passenger was apprehended for firing an electronic cigarette and expired in a bag, a flight attendant told police, according to a relative CNN and NOLA.com.
The smoke alarm sounded later, while the man was in the bathroom.

The 30-year-old man from Florida later told the local sheriff's deputy that he did not know airlines banned smoking in planes, reports said. Captain Jason Rivarde, spokesman for Jefferson Parish's Sherrif, said CNN that the man was "cooperative" and is not the subject of any accusation.

Another passenger complained to a flight attendant that the same man had hidden several bottles of alcohol "under his jacket" and had been drinking it during the flight. The police then found that the man was "heavily" intoxicated "and smelled of alcohol, according to the two outlets.
United States today has contacted Spirit Airlines for a comment.
