Spiritfarer was released a year ago, which means that hopefully everyone who played it had their fill of tears again after they all sobbed them all over the Alice the Hedgehog story. Prepare to cry again, because ThunderLotus’ second character update is here, and this one is a tiny owl you’re kidding me
Hmm. The Spiritfarer 2021 roadmap promised four new characters, and Lily – the giant, fluffy butterfly ball who turns out to be an important person from your past – was added earlier this year, alongside improved cooperation, more story content and quality of life improvements.
Now it’s time for Beverly, another new spirit who needs to be transported to the afterlife, along with new ship buildings, collectibles, and recipes. There are also a lot more quality of life improvements, so let’s take a look at the full patch notes:
Characteristics:
- New backup system: you can now have 3 backup locations. [Click here for more information]
- New station – Archives room: A place where you can store and search for old documents. Prime location to view treasure maps or overhead transparencies.
- Buck’s Lottery Litter Reviews: Special magazines that contain a series of quests with treasure maps.
- The radio in the Salon: Spend time at the bar and listen to one of the songs from the soundtrack you’ve heard before
- New spicy food were added:
- Laska: A delicious spicy noodle soup that will cure any cold.
- Milquetoast: It’s just wet bread.
- Flamin ‘Firebirdz: After a bag of these bad boys, you won’t even feel your face anymore.
- Aloo Gobi: A vegetable delight with added flavor.
- Chai Latte: A spicy drink for cold or hot days.
- Chilaquiles: A breakfast classic for connoisseurs.
- Dakgangjeong: Sweet, crisp and spicy. Three delicious words!
Quality of life improvements:
- You can now track the materials required for buildings, houses, stations, and upgrades in the Captain’s Journal.
- Destination queue: select up to 3 points to explore in one trip!
- New “Safe travel”For travel, which automatically skips events on your next trip.
- You can activate and turn off Alex’s bus station music.
- Optional in-game support for all Elena events when you fail.
- New watering upgrade and visuals for the field and garden (quest rewards)
- Sitting in any chair at night now allows Stargazing mode, which hides buildings and shows the starry sky.
- Added more Stanley drawings!
- The “Sleep” sequence is now faster.
- Small screen shake when using the light burst ability.
- Documents in inventory: new to old, red appears on them to mark them as “new”.
- New game options available:
- Screen shake (scale 1-10)
- Controller vibrations (scale 1-10)
- Input source (direct input / raw input)
- Text bubble size (scale 1-10)
- Game running in background (Off / On)
- Improved construction mode:
- Ship View mode: turn off the user interface to see your entire boat.
- The star cursor should be bigger and is now linked to the grid.
- Selecting a building should align the cursor in the middle of that building.
- Hovering over buildings displays their name in edit / upgrade mode.
- Small UI tweaks:
- There is a “No plan” text display when trying to upgrade buildings with no upgrades available.
- The “Build” button will now appear grayed out if you hover over a building that you cannot build.
Narrative improvements:
- Adjusted the story surrounding Stanley’s takeover of the guesthouse:
- A new shenanigans quest unlocks, prompting the player to create a new guesthouse.
- Some spirits will complain about their lack of habitation. They will also show a weakened “hate to sleep outside” mood if they are forced to sleep outside.
- Added new narrative moments with spirits in specific locations.
- Added clues to each character’s favorite food in their dialogues.
- Spirits now have more interactions with another.
The changes to Gustav’s story are coming in a patch very soon, unfortunately they missed the mark for this content update.
The next and most important update is slated to launch this fall, adding two new spirits, a brand new island, new buildings and resources, and a new event. The Lily and Beverly updates both launched on schedule, so we expect the latest to be on time as well.
The best part is that all of these updates are completely free for those who already have the game. Little Owl Beverly and all of the above fixes and updates are available on Switch now!
