In the first of three announcements planned by THQ Nordic, the company revealed that SpongeBob SquarePants was back in the remake of a 2003 3D platform game featuring the yellow band and his underwater friends, which would pass at Switch in 2020.
SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottoms – Rehydrated is a remake of the original console game that was developed by several studios and released on all major platforms of the day. It was the GameCube / PS2 / Xbox era for those of you who did not play at the time – blimey, is SpongeBob really so old !?
In the game, you fought crawling robots to save Bikini Bottom. It received a mixed critical reception to positive, but was obviously sold by truck, entering the Player's Choice range on GameCube as well as on the corresponding budget lines of the major sellers on the other consoles.
THQ started publishing the ad by beating a hype on Twitter, initially with mixed results, although people soon became interested:
THQ said the game will not come to E3, and the details on this remake are for now slim, the teaser above revealing is pretty much all we need to keep going. Apparently it is manufactured by the Viennese developer team Purple Lamp Studios, a relatively new group of experienced developers The guild 3 to his name. The YouTube trailer, however, mentions a brand new multiplayer mode. The fans of Bob Sponge and Patrick will want to keep an eye on this one.
Did you play the original game on one of the many platforms it had? Are your taste buds like a Krabby Patty? Let us know in the usual place.
