Spotify is testing 99 cents per month subscription with ads

Music and podcast streaming giant Spotify is testing a new level of ad-supported subscription for 99 cents.

The level, dubbed Spotify Plus, allows customers to play songs of their choice with unlimited skips, according to a report from The Verge. Currently, Spotify’s other ad-supported tier, which is free, only allows customers to play music in shuffle mode, and they can only skip six songs per hour.

Spotify Plus would fall between the free tier and Spotify Premium, which costs $ 9.99 and is ad-free with unlimited skips. A representative for the Swedish streamer said Spotify Plus is currently being tested with a “limited number of users” at various price points, including the 99-cent-per-month offer.

“We are always working to improve the Spotify experience and regularly conduct testing to inform our decisions,” said a representative from Spotify. “We are currently testing an ad-supported subscription plan with a limited number of our users. Some tests end up paving the way for new offerings or improvements, while others can only provide learning. “

Spotify is used to testing new features that may or may not emerge. For example, in 2017 Spotify was testing a new premium subscription service called Spotify HiFi for Spotify Premium users.
