Spotify, the the music audio streaming service, is testing a more affordable way to access some of the features normally only available to paid Premium members. Called Spotify Plus, the new tier will allow users to skip as many tracks as they want.

The new plan was first reported by The edge then finally confirmed by Spotify. “We are currently testing an ad-supported subscription plan with a limited number of our users,” a company spokesperson said in a statement.

Compared to the Premium plan at $ 9.99 / month, the Plus plan can cost as little as $ 1 (Spotify is testing the plan at different prices) and offers an incredibly inexpensive way to lift two of the service’s most annoying restrictions. – limited jumps per hour and the inability to select a particular track. An affordable plan could help Spotify increase revenue if and when premium subscriber growth starts to decline.

Unfortunately, given that the Plus tier is currently only in limited testing, there’s probably no way to sign up for it. In fact, things are at such an early stage that Spotify is not 100% sure whether to roll out the level. One can only hope.
