Spotify mimics the radio with a playlist of news and music for drivers

Spotify launches a new playlist called Your Daily Drive, which will include news podcasts. Starting today, US users will be able to listen to music they already enjoy, as well as new music recommendations, by broadcasting podcast content. Anyone can access the playlist, whether they're driving or not.

the the Wall Street newspaper, NPR and Public Radio International will provide the new audio clips. The news and the music will be updated throughout the day, unlike the other popular playlists of the platform. For example, Discover Weekly is updated only once a week and other custom playlists, like Your Daily Mix, are only updated once a day.

This new playlist joins other Spotify lists for promoting podcasts. The edge said earlier this month that Spotify was testing five different playlists designed only by a podcast. Although these playlists are still only in the test phase for five percent of users in different countries, Your Daily Drive is available to all US users.

Today's playlist also comes a month after Spotify announced its first hardware project, Car Thing, designed to collect data on how people use audio in their cars. Spotify's automatic audio ambitions mean that the company can not just be good at music. This playlist is closer to the radio formula, where news comes in from time to time in the song mix – although the new format does not include weather and traffic yet, the two most relevant things for drivers.
