Spotify – the music streaming app – publicly tests Snapchat-style stories.
The new feature has recently started appearing on some user phone applications. When you search for certain terms, such as “Christmas Hits”, and tap one of the featured playlists, you have the option of “Tap to view story”, which offers you a collage of short videos with celebrities speaking their favorite Christmas songs.

Not everyone can see the feature, but I have it on my iPhone, and it’s basically a direct copy of the stories seen on Snapchat and Instagram. You can tap to go to the next part of the story, and you can also flag a story, by tapping the three dots icon in the lower right corner.
I haven’t been able to find a story on any other playlist other than Christmas Hits. If you have the feature and want to try to find more, note that the playlist cover photo is larger on a playlist equipped with a story than on a regular playlist.

Stories have crept into almost every social app over the past couple of years. More recently, Twitter has launched fleets, which are, again, pretty much the same thing.
The functionality is a bit weirder on Spotify, however. The music streaming app has some social elements, with publicly shareable playlists and the ability to follow friends, but the service is mostly about listening to music, which is why the stories feel a bit out of place. about.
