Spotify has spent the last year boring its users with podcast exclusives and desktop UI changes, but if you stick with the app on the strength of its discovery engine, there’s finally good news for you. Daily mixes are getting a much-needed rejuvenation, with three new types of custom playlists now available for streaming.
While classic daily mixes persist, the company is introducing new “Spotify Mixes” to add to your rotating music collection. Three categories have been included for your listening pleasure: Genre, Artist, and Decade.
These new playlists seem a lot easier to navigate than the Daily Mixes. Naming each mix with specific genres and artists helps set the mood for the playlist before viewing the playlist. Meanwhile, the decade’s mixes do a great job of filling songs based on your favorite music, rather than just what was popular at the time. Spotify emphasizes these new collections over its Daily Mix legacy, which has been pushed to the bottom of “Made for You”.
Spotify’s new mixes are now available for free and premium users. You can find them in the “Designed for you” section of the desktop and mobile apps search.
