Spring ISD teacher Joe Diaz likely dies of COVID-19

SPRING, Texas (KTRK) – A Spring ISD teacher fell ill while on vacation and died, likely from COVID-19, according to a district statement.

Edwin M. Wells Middle School reported that Professor Joe Diaz died early Wednesday morning “after falling ill during winter break”.

The district issued the following statement:

“After speaking with Mr. Diaz’s family, we understand his death was likely related to COVID-19. Mr. Diaz had been with Spring ISD since 2017 and was a dedicated educator who worked diligently to ensure success for all of his students. . His passing is a great loss to our school community and our thoughts and prayers are with his family. “

Wells Middle School has an enrollment of approximately 1,130 students in grades 6-8. Diaz was a science teacher at the school, according to the Spring ISD website.
