‘Squid Game’ seller character Gong Yoo revealed

Dong-hyuk Hwang, director of the long-awaited Netflix series Squid game, revealed more about the seller played by Gong Yoo.

As a special appearance in episodes 1 and 9, the character in the subway recruits participants in the game Squid by playing ddakji. With some speculation on the red and blue envelopes depicting the staff and players, the director commented on the topic and how the character fits into the plot. “The recruiter is a facilitator of the game who gains the trust of authority and is allowed to work outside in public,” Hwang explains. The colors of the envelopes only hint at the Japanese legend aka Manto, where a masked spirit asked people if they wanted red paper or blue paper in the bathroom.

For the casting, director Hwang added that he asked Gong Yoo for the role and the Train to Busanthe protagonist immediately agreed. Regarding season 2 of the series, the director revealed that season 1 was difficult to film. “I don’t think I can do season 2 for a while because writing, producing and directing on my own is so difficult mentally and physically.”
