He explained how to work with Park Hae Soo and Lee Jung Jae, sharing, “Working with Park Hae Soo made me really happy and gave me a lot of strength. Park Hae Soo is very caring and treated me like a friend so there was never a time when I felt scared or pressured in any way. Instead, he helped me a lot and brought out parts of me to help me do better.
“The way Park Hae Soo acted as Sang Woo was something I experienced for the first time,” continued Anupam Tripathi. “Park Hae Soo is someone who transforms a scene with just his presence. I felt and learned a lot from seeing this side of Park Hae Soo every day. As a result, the relationship between Sang Woo and Ali was able to grow even stronger and I was able to form a good relationship with Park Hae Soo even outside of the shoot. It was a really happy time. I think he’s someone who really gives everything.
He added, “I am also grateful to Lee Jung Jae. Lee Jung Jae is a fun person who makes a lot of jokes. He took great care of me personally. When we were filming our first scene together, I was pissed off after grabbing his neck with too much force, but he comforted me and said, “It’s okay. Do it comfortably, do whatever you like. After hearing this my nerves immediately felt relieved I think it was thanks to Lee Jung Jae’s help that I was able to act comfortably in this project and show a good performance.
Regarding his role as Ali Abdul, the actor commented: “He is a warm and loving character who does everything for his family. In “Squid Game”, which features a variety of human types, he is the nicest kid character. I acted with the hope that I could convey Ali’s character as well as possible to viewers.
Anupam Tripathi shared, “Before I act, I think about what I want to show about this person’s life and how I want this character to communicate with viewers. Honestly, I don’t think Ali is a typical character. He clarified, “Isn’t the character Ali from ‘Squid Game’ meeting people from 190 countries around the world through Netflix? I think this is the first time these people meet a character who is a migrant worker in Korean society. I thought about what I could do to get all these different people around the world to accept Ali. He continued, “Using them as a basis, I spent a lot of time working on the human and sympathetic image of Ali’s character. I also consulted texts on migrant workers and labor issues in I thought about how I had played similar roles in the past and thought about what I could do to express Ali’s character in the least cliché way possible.
“This is how the image of Ali was made up in me,” said Anuman Tripathi, “and I received help from a lot of different people so that I didn’t get stuck in this image and can create a character that reaches as many people as possible. The director helped me a lot, and I also got a lot of help from Lee Jung Jae and Park Hae Soo. I also discovered a lot by chatting about the set with different people like actors Heo Sung Tae, Kim Joo Ryoung and Jung Ho Yeon.
