The Jan. 5 second round will pit Reverend Raphael Warnock, a Democrat, against current Republican Senator Kelly Loeffler and Democrat Jon Ossoff against GOP Senator David Perdue.
On Sunday, Republicans were cautiously optimistic about their chances of winning the Georgia races, which would allow them to control Biden and the Democratic-controlled House. The Senate is now stuck at 48-48, but Republicans are leading unreported races in Alaska and North Carolina.
One big change in the January second round will be the absence of President Donald Trump at the top of the post. Senator Mitt Romney (R-Utah) told NBC’s “Meet the Press” show that the races would be more about politics.
“I don’t think Americans want to join the Green New Deal and Medicare for All and so on,” he said. “So I think we’re going to do well in the Georgia race. But it’s going to be a challenge.”
