Sylvester Stallone, star of the iconic action of the 1980s, continues to exploit his past characters for what they are worth. During a retrospective of his career at Cannes film festival, which seems endless, Stallone explained what the public could expect from Rambo V: last blood, his idea for a new Rocky movie (wait, what?), and how he wants to restart his 1986 action movie Cobra in a television show.
Rambo V: last blood
While the fifth Rambo unfortunately no question of genetically modified half-humans (as originally planned), Stallone painted the picture of what he will to be on (via deadline):
"In every film, Rambo never goes home, he goes out into the jungle or into Afghanistan. In the new, he comes home, but in one way, he never arrives. He is there, but he is not. That explains the whole story. As soon as he walks past his door, he no longer has any control. The world controls you.
We pick it up, it's out in this storm, a horrible storm. He's trying to save people. There is a flash flood. A guy rides a horse, he volunteers to save people. He's still dealing with the survivor's guilt because he could [sic] save his friends in Vietnam. A result of PTSD. He has trouble. He has a beautiful ranch, but he lives underground. This is how he treats his dilemma. There is something underground in Vietnam. He has a adopted family there. His father is dead. The 70-year-old housekeeper has a granddaughter. He is his substitute father. "
Once the granddaughter went to Mexico to try to find her real father, "bad things happen. There will be a serious revenge in this movie. Many people were injured. I'm not sure I'm adhering to the ideology of this film, but obviously, I'll hold back my judgment until I see it myself. Rambo V: last blood hits the theaters on September 20, 2019.
Wait, a New Rocky?
When Creed II Stallone announced that he had finished playing his iconic character boxer Rocky Balboa. But now, the actor seems to be experiencing a change of heart:
"I have a good idea for Rocky. He finds this guy illegally in the country and it becomes a whole … It's like the magician who lost his tricks. You have seen everything, but what can be different? Throw him out of the country, he is in another world. "
Your hypothesis is as good as mine as to what Stallone means by that (does Rocky return to the country of origin of the immigrant with his new friend?), But I think we can all agree that Rocky Balboa is back, it's a bad idea, right? Especially outside the Creed movies. This character has already made two unlikely returns (three, if you count Creed II!), so I really do not think Stallone should still risk Rocky's legacy.
The return of Marion Cobretti?
If you've never seen the 1986 movie Cobrait's totally crazy.
When asked in Cannes to think about this movie, Stallone revealed that he had additional projects for this property:
"It was (conceited) if Bruce Springsteen had a gun? It was a rock'n'roll and a drama. It should have been another franchise because this character was so cool. And I ruined everything. My personal life was an obstacle. But we try to bring it back as a television series in streaming. Take out the team of zombies. I left a long time ago, but the idea is really good. "
The "Zombies" team refers to the fictitious division of the elite LAPD applicators, which includes Marion "Cobra" Cobretti, a character from Stallone. I'm happy to learn that at least Stallone has self-awareness that he should not either reproduce that role, but I'm not quite sure that a story of Sneaky renegade policeman tells the story of a guy who fights against the cult of rapists is the best decision for the current climate. Maybe it could work if it's tongue in cheeks? But Stallone took Cobra deadly seriously in the 80s – the film was born from its lead role in Beverly Hills Cop then rewriting the script to remove all the jokes. All I'll say is, good luck to anyone trying to get a TV version off the ground.
