The Stanley Cup suffered damage, Athleticism has learned, in the midst of the Tampa Bay Lightning celebrating its second straight championship on Monday. The team was back in Tampa on Monday for their winning rally at Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park.
The Cup will be sent to Montreal to receive the necessary repairs. The Lightning will pick it up next weekend to resume the celebrations.
Tampa Bay ended its quest for back-to-back championships by beating Montreal in Game 5 last week to win the Stanley Cup Final Series 4-1. The Lightning join the Pittsburgh Penguins as the only salary cap era teams to pull off the feat.
