Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge is a monster run for Disney theme parks. Virtually everyone I've talked to who has managed to get an elusive reserve to wander the latest addition to Disney's California Adventure was thrilled with this experience. Not only can you build your own custom lightsaber or pilot the Millennium Falcon in the smuggler's race, but everyone keeps telling me that for a few hours you absolutely forget real life and you feel like you're in the dark. to be transported to a real planet of Star wars movie! I can not wait to visit the Batuu planet and see it for myself.

However, while everyone enjoyed the park and took pictures of the different interesting things on display, some anecdotes remain to be revealed … until today.

star-wars-galaxys-edge tie-echelonWhen you build an addition to a theme park, you need an army of people, city permits, and far too many entities to sign and approve what you want to build. In addition, unlike a film set designed to last the duration of the filming, a theme park must be built to withstand extreme weather conditions and millions of people. That means you have to start very early.

If you've been to Galaxy's Edge or seen pictures of the park, you know that Disney built some life-size ships: an X-wing fighter, the Millennium Falcon, an A-wing fighter and the First Order Tie Echelon.

Although you probably know that the first three ships, the last one, called the Tie Echelon, is new and has not been seen yet. Star wars movie. And according to what I've learned about how the ship landed in the park, that probably will not be the case.

That's because many years ago, when the director Colin Trevorrow was still barring Star Wars: Episode IX, I heard that he and his design team were invited to help craft a ship for Galaxy's Edge. When I first heard it, I thought it was impossible for it to be true. But then I realized that they must have started drawing the park years ago and maybe the story was true.

In order to get to the bottom of things, I contacted Trevorrow and he confirmed what I had heard. Here is what he had to say about how it happened:

Collider: When building a theme park, you must start designing years before opening it. I've heard that Tie Echelon was something you created with your design team when you were on Episode IX.

COLIN TREVORROW: That's right.

Can you share your involvement in Galaxy's Edge and the behind-the-scenes story behind the ship's creation?

TREVORROW: It was just a natural part of the process. The Imagineering team asked us to develop a new ship for the park during the design of the film. I took it very seriously: it's not every day that you participate in something like that. They let me see what they were working on, so I could see what the Galaxy Edge would be. I think what they have created is amazing. It's such an immersive experience.

When you boarded the ship, was this part of a sequence you were working on or am I going to create a ship so we could find a way to adapt it to the movie?

TREVORROW: This was part of an improved first-rate fleet. A troop transport – the equivalent of a Blackhawk stealth helicopter. We wanted this to evoke memories of previous ships while still being his own. If you look at the elements, you will see that it is a hybrid of models VII and VIII, as well as familiar elements of OT Tie Fighters, such as Vader's Advanced x1. There is a lot of history in it.

star-wars-galaxys-edge tie-echelonIf this was part of a sequence you had already thought of, can you tell us what it would have been?

TREVORROW: I'm pretty sure you know the answer to that question, but I respect the question. Honestly, I'm just proud to have been part of it. I love this boat. Put my ashes in, man.

It remains to be seen whether TIE Echelon will appear in J.J. Abrams Episode IX (The rise of Skywalker), it's cool to know something in Trevorrow's version of Episode IX was actually built in real life.
