At a special live-streaming event, Lucasfilm released a trailer for its publishing initiative, previously unreleased concept art and covers, and announced new details on the books, comics and more at come.
Star Wars: The High Republic starts tomorrow, with the arrival of the first books of the multimedia initiative.
To celebrate the new era of Star wars storytelling, Lucasfilm opened the doors to its publishing epic today with a special live broadcast celebrating the Jan. 5 launch of The High Republic. StarWars.com’s Kristin Baver moderated the event, leading a discussion with Lucasfilm Publishing Creative Director Michael Siglain and the contributing writers on the new stories: Charles Soule, Justina Ireland, Cavan Scott, Daniel José Older and Claudia Gray. During the hour-long conversation, the writers discussed their collaboration, plot points and inspiration behind new characters, and revealed a few of what fans can expect. as they explore this unexplored corner of the galaxy far, far away.
Here’s a look at all of the biggest news coming from the event.
1. Check out this brand new trailer! We think that speaks for itself.
2. In the dark will introduce us to new galactic pilots. Gray shared a few ideas about his squad of heroes, including Leox, Geode, and Affie.
3. And we got our first glimpse and our first information on a host of other new characters. From Bonbraks to Ty Yorrick via Ram Jamoram, The High Republic is full of fun new creatures, aliens, and characters.
4. Character inspiration runs the gamut. While Gray envisioned a Matthew McConaughey guy for one of his smugglers, Older used the radio callsign of a colleague of his day as a paramedic to help him create a character known as “Buckets of Blood.” “. You’re going to want to hear him tell the story.
5. Soule’s new fiction in the last Star Wars Insider this is just the beginning. In addition to the storytelling series that began in issue # 199, Ireland and Scott will be writing “Starlight Stories” for the magazine this year.
6. Scott will also add an original graphic novel to the mix. The Temple Peak Monster will include art by Rachael Stott.
7. Ireland will guide us Out of the shadows. In his first YA novel for the initiative, Ireland will introduce a new audience to the ongoing adventures of Jedi Knight Vernestra Rwoh, Padawan Reath Silas, budding inventor Avon Starros and many more.
8. Older is preparing for Crashpoint Tower Race. The second mid-quality novel set at the time will be filled with top-notch entertainment.
9. Besides the Marvel and IDW comics, The High Republic will include an original graphic novel in manga format from Viz Media. With a story of Ireland and Shima Shinya and an art by Mizuki Sakakibara, The edge of balance is the first in a new series.
10. StarWars.com will welcome the initiative with a brand new bi-monthly show. The panel introduced host Krystina Arielle, who will take fans on a deep behind-the-scenes dive with the creators, artists and writers of the new series. Star Wars Show The High Republic.
And the journey is far from over. Siglain revealed that the announced titles are only part of the first phase of the multi-year project rollout. While little is known about what each will involve, he did reveal the names of each phase:
- Phase I: Light of the Jedi
- Phase II: Quest of the Jedi
- Phase III: Trials of the Jedi
