Manhattan’s Starbucks establishments have closed amid fears of disorderly or violent protests in the days leading up to President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration.
The riot on the United States Capitol on January 6 disrupted the nation, but even more disturbing was the news from the FBI that there was measurable “online chatter” of further violent protests.
Governors of various states have closed their state capitol buildings out of caution, hoping to avoid similar incidents.

Now even businesses have started to take extra precautions to avoid repeating the 2020 protests against police brutality that saw New York businesses looted and vandalized.
A Starbucks spokesperson confirmed to FOX Business that some Manhattan locations have closed – a decision made by local leaders, not the corporate level.
The NYPD confirmed to FOX Business that there were protests scheduled for Sunday, but not at a level that would justify shutting down businesses.

“We have no indication that they are going to be important or messy,” an NYPD spokesperson said. “I don’t know why Starbucks would shut down its businesses.”
Another NYPD official confirmed that the force will maintain a “strong presence” at Trump-affiliated sites, including the Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue.
The force is evaluating the measures every day, with no clear indication that further action could be taken in the days leading up to Biden’s inauguration.

“After the grand opening, we will reassess our security posture,” a senior NYPD official said in a statement to FOX Business.
