Starbucks Corp. built his empire in China on the idea that consumers in this country would like to be seen in his chic cafes.

Now, the Seattle-based company is struggling to keep up, as local rookie Luckin Coffee gains a new type of Chinese customer, a customer who wants his caffeine delivered within minutes. The sudden increase in the company has resulted in Starbucks, Luckin and McDonald's Corp. in a race to build the delivery system best suited to the frantic Chinese market.
