Major League Baseball is putting Starlin Castro on administrative leave following an alleged incident of domestic violence earlier this summer, multiple sources told The Athletic. The move is expected to take place before the team’s practice in DC on Friday afternoon.
The leave is seven days, during which Castro is always paid and does not waste time on duty. It can be extended in one-week increments if Major League Baseball and MLB Players Association agree. This is not an admission of guilt, but rather a chance for the league to investigate the matter.
It is not known when the incident took place. Castro was placed on the shortlist on June 16 due to what manager Davey Martinez said at the time to be “a family affair”. Castro left before the June 15 game and returned home to Monte Cristi in the Dominican Republic. This case is said to be unrelated to the alleged incident revealed on Friday.
