Start ‘Em, Sit’ Em is the ultimate look at the best and worst PPR based scoring system matches in fantasy football. This column will not cover elite NFL players like Patrick Mahomes, Christian McCaffrey, Davante Adams or Travis Kelce. Instead, I’m going to look at which players you have the most questions about to help you define the most effective starting roster possible. For all of your final fantasy roster decisions, be sure to check out my weekly player rankings which will be updated daily throughout the 2021 NFL season.
Week 2 Start ‘Em: Quarterbacks
Beginning of the week
Tom Brady vs. The Falcons (4:05 p.m. ET, FOX): Brady was spectacular in his first start of the season, throwing four touchdown passes and scoring a fantastic 27.2 points in a win over the Cowboys. I would also keep him in your starting XI this week, as the Bucs host the Falcons. Their defense gave Jalen Hurts nearly 29 fantastic points last week and gave up the seventh most quarterback points since Week 9 of 2020.

Start them
Aaron Rodgers at Lions (Mon, 8:15 pm ET, ESPN): It would have been considered an obvious catch last week, but some fantastic managers might be wary of Rodgers after his 1.3 point stink bomb last week. Consider this for reassurance. The best elixir for a struggling quarterback is a clash against the Lions, who have surrendered the most points in the post since Week 9 of 2020. Keep the faith and relaunch Rodgers.
Matthew Stafford at Colts (1 p.m. ET, FOX): This correspondence may sound bad on paper, but the opposite is true. In their last 10 games, the Colts have averaged over 20 fantasy points per game in quarterbacks. That includes a huge stat line given to Russell Wilson last week (4 TDs, 27.1 points). Stafford also looked like a true superstar in his Rams debut, throwing three touchdown passes.
Jameis Winston at Panthers (1 p.m. ET, FOX): Winston came out of nowhere to score five touchdowns on his Saints debut, which increased his supply in the fantasy world. He is expected to be active in all superflex leagues and two quarterbacks this weekend when the Saints face the Panthers. In their last nine games dating back to last year, their passing defense allowed 21 touchdowns to opposing quarterbacks.
Baker Mayfield vs. the Texans (1 p.m. ET, CBS): Mayfield smelled bad in Game 1 of the season, scoring just 12.6 fantastic points in a loss to the Chiefs. I think he’s going to bounce back this week, though, as the Browns host the Texans. Their defense gave up over 19 fantastic points to rookie Trevor Lawrence last week and gave up about 20 points per game to the opposing quarterbacks in their last 10 games dating back to last season.

Week 2 Sit ‘Em: Quarterbacks
Seat of the week
Carson Wentz vs. Rams (1 p.m. ET, FOX): Wentz had a decent stat line last week in a loss to the Seahawks, throwing for 251 yards with two touchdowns for 18.3 points. It won’t do it in this era of fantasy football, however, and this week’s game against the Rams is intimidating. Their defense has allowed just eight touchdown passes and an amazing 12.2-point average in their last nine games.
Sit down
Matt Ryan at Buccaneers (4:05 p.m. ET, FOX): Ryan and the Falcons’ offense looked terrible last week against a questionable Eagles defense, so facing the Buccaneers on the road makes this team a major risk. Atlanta’s offensive line has struggled to protect Ryan, and Tampa Bay has one of the league’s top seven. Ryan has scored over 18 fantastic points in just three of his 13 career starts against the Bucs on the road.
Sam Darnold vs. Saints (1 p.m. ET, FOX): Ranked among the rookies last week, Darnold put in a fantastic performance with two touchdowns and over 19 fantastic points. It was against the Jets in a rematch, however. This week, Darnold has a much tougher opponent when the Panthers face the Saints. Since Week 9 of 2020, no defense in the league has awarded less fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks (10.3 PPG).
Tua Tagovailoa vs. Bills (1 p.m. ET, FOX): I love Tagovailoa as a sleeper this season, but it’s tough to throw him in a tough Week 2 game against the Bills. Their defense has only allowed 12 touchdown passes and a fantastic under 17 point average to enemy quarterbacks in their last nine games. This includes a contest from Week 17 of a season ago where the Bills held Tua to one touchdown and just 15.2 fantastic points.
Derek Carr at Steelers (1 p.m. ET, CBS): Carr put in a strong performance in Week 1, throwing two touchdowns and scoring a fantastic 24 points against the Ravens. I would keep him out of the starting lineup this week, however, as he faces a Steelers defense that has only allowed 10 touchdowns and fantastic 13.5 points per game against opposing quarterbacks since Week 9 of 2020. Carr is a fantasy for me. the week.
