State of Decay 2: Homecoming Update turns a linear map into an open world – Gamescom 2021

State of Decay 2’s free Homecoming update arrives on September 1 and transforms the linear, story-driven map of the Heartland expansion into a more open and explorable world.

Trumbull Valley is the location used in the original State of Decay, but in State of Decay 2 it was only used as a narrative location, with the player able to move their community of characters there. Homecoming has been “completely remastered” and opened up for the sequel, including some brand new areas that weren’t accessible before.

The map will feature 6 new bases, new weapons, items that can only be found in Trumbull, and environmental storytelling that expands the story of the original game and the Heartland expansion. Homecoming’s own story will involve “the discovery of new characters and storylines, and the resolution of long-running plot threads.”

We gave State of Decay 2 a 7.5 / 10 rating, and the game has now passed 10 million lifetime players.
