State officials were set to hand out doses of drug maker Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine “in the coming days,” Governor Greg Abbott said on Saturday.

Abbott tweeted a link to a Wall Street Journal article that said United Airlines had started operating charter flights to position doses of the vaccine for rapid distribution if approved by federal and global regulators and wrote: “Texas is ready to distribute these vaccines in the coming days. . “

The comment was the last Abbott made on the state of readiness to distribute a vaccine once approved.

“Texas is already structurally prepared for the rapid distribution of these vaccines once they are approved,” he said at a press conference Thursday.

The Chronicle reported last week that four hospitals in the Houston area were scrambling to prepare for shipments of the first vaccine, likely in mid-December.
