Stats summary: 3 numbers Mavericks win against Spurs

The Dallas Mavericks dropped the hammer on the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night, winning 115-104, but chances are you already knew that. Otherwise, click here to learn more about how the game was won.

Dallas now has three games over .500 and it feels good. Let’s just get to the specific numbers of what propelled the Mavericks to victory.

51-30: Dallas wins rebound margin in huge way

In a rarity for the Mavericks this season, Dallas owned the boards, hitting the Spurs by a massive +21 margin. They nearly overtook San Antonio on the offensive glass, 13-7 and those extra looks turned out to be huge as the Mavericks were able to retire late from a spirited Spurs team. Porzingis caught four of his season-high 14 rebounds on offense and those looks helped the Mavericks lead straight to our next data point.

21-2: Second Chance Points Boost Mavericks

The Mavericks are 27th in the league in second chance scoring, so watching Porzingis grab and attack a hand under the backboard then come up and score was a delicious game that I would love to see more of. In a game decided by just 11 points, Dallas needed those points.

4223: Number of points scored by Luka Doncic in his career, overtaking Kendrick Perkins

Did I choose to write this post just so we can run this social media graphic again? Perhaps.

Should we feed the troll that is Kendrick Perkins? Of course not. But we’re not above being mean as long as it’s funny and given the insane criticisms Perkins throws at Doncic, it was too easy. Doncic is very good at basketball. He is very good at scoring basketball.
