Well, okay
It seems that Valve is launching in the virtual reality sector without HTC sooner than expected.
Having established a partnership with the conglomerate of designers just a few years ago, Valve is about to truly embark on the virtual reality business with its own hardware: the Valve Index. This was announced without warning over the weekend and the details are very vague: yes, it's Valve (minus the nebulous "Valve Time" because the release date of May 2019 was shared).
As The Verge points out, there seem to be several wide-angle cameras to avoid shocks in the room, as well as a slider for those who may not be adapting to virtual reality. The long-running wild rumor is that Half-Life 3 will be a virtual reality experience to help sell the Valve Valve's future vision (but not necessarily at launch).
The headset will probably focus on Steam, but Valve should leave the opportunity to connect to the "Valve VR" concept of the platform with Oculus Rift and the existing hardware of your HTC Vive.
