Steam leaves video content not related to games

Steam's video policy for the platform's video content is changing to focus only on gaming-related videos.

The purchase of games is to launch them via the platform. This is the main goal of Steam, but the platform has also been interested in selling movies and providing other video content to its users. Many users probably did not know that such content was available, as the platform was primarily games and related products, so it would be surprising to hear about Valve's new plans for video content.

"In recent years, we have been working on extending Steam beyond games and software by creating a video platform that supports paid and free video content," said Valve's update. . "By looking at what Steam users are really watching, it has become clear that we should focus on providing game-related or accessory-related content for games or software sold on Steam."

This means that the video section of Steam in the Steam Store menu has now been removed. According to Valve, this change should allow finding relevant video content for a game via the store page of this product, its recommendations or other natural leads that would guide users to that content.

For those who already own video content acquired via Steam, Valve said that they would be able to keep it.

"Over the next few weeks, a number of non-gaming videos will be removed and will no longer be available for purchase," Valve's announcement said. "Previously purchased content will remain available to homeowners."

Rumors that non-gaming video video content sections would be closed came back in December when a single post on Steam sparked speculation about the future of the video section. Waves and Blaze, producers of the video series High school of the weird still available on Steam, announced on December 19 that Steam would stop any video content not intended for games in the platform store. The creators announced their intention to continue broadcasting the series via Steam, but advised fans to look elsewhere for future episodes.

"We had planned to release [sic] and promote the series here on Steam with more animations and artistic productions, but that's coming to an end, "said Waves and Blaze. "You can continue to download and watch until February 2019. Do not forget to consult us on Youtube and Vimeo."
