Steam’s Digital Tabletop Fest is back this month

October is shaping up to be a busy month on Steam. Earlier today, the latest game demos event kicked off (here are the 13 best Steam festival demos) and later this month they’ll be having another digital tabletop festival. Like last year, this is a live sale and celebration of games inspired and adapted from board games. This year, the event will look at RPGs, including a chat with the folks behind Disco Elysium and Baldur’s Gate 3 when it kicks off later this month.

This year’s Digital Tabletop Fest runs from Friday October 22 through Sunday 24. Like last year, there will be game sales and live discussions with the developers. Valve is rolling out the big dice this year, attracting developers from Larian Studios of Divinity: Original Sin 2 and Baldurs Gate 3 as well as Zaum Studio of Disco Elysium fame.

They are both perhaps quite far into the “inspired by” table games part of the licensed spectrum, but I imagine this discussion will be particularly interesting to listen to. Matthew Castle had a really great interview with Larian about Baldur’s Gate 3 in June 2020 and while it’s outdated now, it’s a great listen. I imagine we’ll have a much more enlightening discussion of game design at their panel on the 23rd. The folks at Zaum have always been happy to hear from my experience, so I’m expecting a lot of well of their speech which kicks off the event on Friday 22.

Elsewhere in the full schedule, you can spot panels dedicated to Dungeons & Dragons, the Game Of Thrones digital board game, the World Of Darkness setting, and more.

You can tune into the Digital Tabletop Fest panels when they kick off with Disco Elysium on Friday, October 22 at 6 p.m. BST (10 a.m. PDT).
