Steelers could lose another coach, Teryl Austin interviews Titans

Thursday, January 14, was a busy day for the Pittsburgh Steelers. After informing offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner, offensive line coach Shaun Sarrett and secondary coach Tom Bradley that they would not be getting new contracts with the team, the Steelers also learned that the veteran coach James Daniel was retiring.

Now the Steelers have to wait and see if any other coaches look for work elsewhere in 2021.

The Miami Dolphins are interviewing quarterback coach Matt Canada for their offensive coordinator role, and it now looks like Steelers defensive assistant coach Teryl Austin has a chance to prove he’s capable of another role. defensive coordinator with the Tennessee Titans.

This by Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

Austin came to the Steelers after serving as the defensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals, and he thrived in Pittsburgh to revive the secondary team. If Austin is offered the job at Nashville, you can’t blame him for taking it, given the Steelers are rumored to be keeping Keith Butler year after year.

If Canada and Austin both moved to greener pastures in 2021, the Steelers would have an incredible turnover as the league’s new year approaches. Again, these are just interviews that Canada and Austin participate in, but a whopping 6 new coaches are expected to be hired if they are to get their promotions with other jobs.

As shown on Thursday, business with the Steelers is resuming this offseason, and to stay on top of the news be sure to stay tuned to BTSC.
