Steelers DC warns Josh Allen of Bills ahead of Week 1 game

Pittsburgh Steelers defensive coordinator Keith Butler met with local media on Thursday and was asked about the size of Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and how he would occasionally end up runs physically as a running back.

Butler apparently hopes Allen invites contact when he runs the ball on Sunday, according to Brooke Pryor of ESPN. The two teams face off in Orchard Park, NY at Highmark Stadium at 1 p.m.

“If you’re going to run the ball, that ball gets a lot of attention in the NFL,” The butler said, by Tim Benz of Tribune-ReviewSports. “There is usually a price to pay. We will see what happens in the game.

The Bills beat the Steelers in Week 14 last season in Sunday Night Football, 25-16. It was mostly Allen’s job as a passer that helped Buffalo win the game, as he only ran it six times for 28 yards.

Butler said Allen reminds him of a young Ben Roethlisberger with the way he’s able to run with football.

“I hope he tries to finish his runs like a running back. We’ll treat him like an RB, ”Butler said. “If he wants to be treated like a running back, so will we.”

The Bills have won the last two encounters against the Steelers after losing the first six games both teams have played in this century. Matches are generally close and Allen said they felt like big boxing matches due to the physical nature of the matches.

Allen also said he saw why he was often compared to Roethlisberger, but avoided putting himself in the same class as the 39-year-old.

“You just see the physical ability he has, whether it’s directing the ball into the field or being able to send him three technicians (defensive tackles),” Allen said of Roethlisberger. “Watching his game back then as if the game was never over. It’s never over with him. He’s able to find ways to escape and get the ball out in awesome ways. … He was super fun to watch, he’s still super fun to watch ”
