Steelers inactive for week 3 against Bengals

The list of inactive Steelers for today’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals is not what you want to see before an AFC North game.

In a contest that is going to be physical, the Steelers will be without two of their outside linebackers, starters TJ Watt and Alex Highsmith. Watt suffered a groin injury last week that forced him to miss much of the Las Vegas Raiders game. He was limited to training this week and listed as questionable on Friday, but was later demoted to Saturday.

Highsmith was also hampered all week by a groin injury, missed training and was sent off on Friday.

With Watt and Highsmith absent, it will be Melvin Ingram III and Jamir Jones who will get the majority of the work at the outside linebacker. Ingram, who was signed ahead of training camp, is a seasoned veteran who was already on the rotation with Watt and Highsmith. Jones is an eye-opening freshman at training camp, earning him a spot in the 53-man roster.

“We’re very comfortable with him,” Jones’s Ingram said. “There’s a reason he’s here. We’re very comfortable and he’s a great player. When he gets the chance he’ll do the job for sure.

“I’ve seen him grow tremendously every day since camp. From training to games, day after day he’s working to be a great football player in this league.”

Receiver Diontae Johnson, who sustained a knee injury in the Raiders’ final game and missed practice all week, is also inactive, which was also ruled out on Friday.

The defensive line will be deprived of Carlos Davis, again inactive with a knee injury. Already missing from the line are Tyson Alualu, placed on the Reserve / Injured list this week after breaking his ankle, and Stephon Tuitt, who has been on the Reserve / Injured list since the start of the season. It will be up to young players like Isaiah Buggs, Henry Mondeaux and rookie Isaiahh Loudermilk to be the next man.

Additionally, with linebacker and receiver injuries, the Steelers have elevated wide receiver Cody White and linebacker Derrek Tuszka to the practice squad’s active / inactive roster. After the match, White and Tuszka will automatically return to the practice squad without having to go through the waivers.

The full list of inactive is below.
