The NFL has not made any official announcement on how it plans to handle this week’s game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens themselves have a full-blown COVID-19 epidemic and there is a growing sense that the game cannot be played on Sunday.
One option for the NFL is to force the Ravens to quit. That would give the Steelers a win and the Ravens a loss and the Steelers would have something that feels like a week off.
That sounds good except there is a cost as well. And by cost, I mean players wouldn’t get paid for forfeit. It means something in the vicinity of $ 13 million loss of wages between the two teams.
The Steelers’ biggest loser is reportedly linebacker Bud Dupree, whose pay per game is $ 931,000. The second highest Steeler is defensive lineman Stephon Tuitt with just over $ 529,000.
