In the first quarter of Saturday’s preseason game with the Detroit Lions, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger hooked up with rookie tight end Pat Freiermuth twice for touchdowns.
After the match, when asked about Freiermuth, Roethlisberger dropped a subtle but effective comparison to former Steeler Heath Miller.
Miller and Roethlisberger have played together for 11 seasons, and Miller is widely regarded as the best tight end in franchise history. This makes the comparison with Freiermuth even more interesting.
Pittsburgh drafted Freiermuth in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft at Penn State. Freiermuth is a bizarre athlete with impressive length and body control. He showed up on Saturday night if you run it he’ll find a way to get on and get it back.
