The Mason Rudolph Era will start earlier than planned. In the second week between the Steelers and the Seahawks, Ben Roethlisberger injured his elbow in the second quarter and, after being assessed at half-time, did not give way to Rudolph.

This by Gerry Dulac of Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

Roethlisberger was not hit or touched on the elbow, but Roethlisberger showed obvious signs of pain to end the half, despite his stint in the match and his recovery.

At the end of half-time, tests in the locker room revealed that the problem was serious enough for the team to decide that it was neither safe nor wise to place Roethlisberger on the field and risk hurt more. It should be noted that Roethlisberger is on the sidelines but is not warming up and will likely be an emergency quarterback if needed at all times.
