The Steelers have entered running back Trey Edmunds as a 53-man roster. Edmunds was released on Saturday after the team activated linebackers Avery Williamson and Jayrone Elliott.
Edmunds will take the place of tight end Vance McDonald, who was placed on the Reserve / COVID-19 list on Monday night.
Edmunds was on the practice squad to start the 2020 season, then was activated for the Week 5 and Week 7 squad games, before being promoted to the 53-player roster on the 31st. October.
Edmunds opened the 2019 season on the Steelers practice squad before being promoted to the 53-man roster on October 11. He played 11 games with 22 carries for 92 yards and six receptions for 48 yards. Edmunds also had an interception on a false punt against the Los Angeles Rams.
His best performance came against the Indianapolis Colts when he ran 12 carries for 73 yards when James Conner and Benny Snell were inactive with injuries.
In 2018, he spent 12 weeks on the team’s training squad before being added to the 53-player roster on December 4. He played four games in 2018 but ended the season without a postponement, seeing some action mostly on special teams.
Edmunds began his career with the New Orleans Saints, and for his career he has 31 carries for 140 yards and 13 tackles on special teams.
