Steelers take on Chuks Okorafor gets best of game with Denver rusher Von Miller

Missing a game with a concussion allowed Pittsburgh Steelers right tackle Chuks Okora to clear his head and get his game back on track.

Okorafor, who has underperformed in the first three weeks of the season, was tasked with facing Denver Broncos rusher Von Miller on Sunday as the Steelers looked to end a three-game losing streak.

Although he was called up for a pair of false starts, Okorafor held Miller in check. The eight-time Pro Bowl passer and career 110.5-sack owner was limited to a pair of assisted tackles and was not a factor in the Broncos’ 27-19 loss to Heinz Field.

Miller came in with 4.5 sacks, collecting at least a half-sack in each of Denver’s first four games. He didn’t get his hands on Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who was hit twice at the low of the season.

“We weren’t going to sacrifice our entire offense by putting tight ends and extra guys in there,” Roethlisberger said. “We asked Chuks to do a job against one of the best passer in the game and one of the best of all time, and I think he did a great job.”

Okorafor suffered a concussion in the fourth quarter of the Steelers’ 24-10 loss to Cincinnati. He didn’t play in the loss to Green Bay which extended the team’s losing streak to three games.

Okorafor was reinserted into the line at the expense of Joe Haeg, who played against the Packers.

“I would be remiss if I didn’t say Chuks had a phenomenal week of training, a phenomenal game,” said veteran guard Trai Turner. “He was strapped in and ready to play the whole game. ”

As a rookie in 2018, Okorafor started against Denver due to injuries to Marcus Gilbert and Matt Feiler. Miller had a sack but just another tackle in this game.

“We talked about him having some experience with (Miller),” Turner said. “Any Sunday, and it’s a new Sunday. After last week he knew he had to go out and be ready to go, and he was. He took care of business.
