Vence had reported to the police that he had stopped on the road to check his tires because of a "popping sound". He then stated that he was ambushed by the men, who knocked him out and took the car and Davis.

Houston police said the blood found in Vence's apartment was related to Maleah and that he had been seen carrying a full laundry basket.
