Steph Curry shed ‘a lot of tears’ when told Klay Thompson tore Achilles apart

Steph Curry shares something in common with Warriors fans: They were both moved when they heard the astounding news that Klay Thompson had torn his Achilles right up last week.

In an interview with Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated, Curry opened up about how he discovered his Splash Brother had suffered another devastating end-of-season injury.

“He’s the best 2-guard in the league,” Curry told Spears on Monday. “Receiving that call was definitely a boost. Lots of tears. You don’t really know what to say because a guy like that now has to go through two pretty serious detoxes. But in the end, we have to have his back. We hope he is there and participating in what we are doing through his rehabilitation and staying in touch with us. “

After missing the entire 2019-20 NBA season as he recovered from a torn left ACL, Thompson now has another grueling rehab in front of him.

Thompson was weeks away from returning to the field for training camp and the start of the 2020-21 NBA season on December 22. Instead, that goal was derailed during a pickup match at a Southern California gym last Wednesday.

“You feel for a guy who worked so hard to get back on court two to three weeks [training camp] and something like that happens, ”Curry told Spears. “You have to have a global mindset when something like this happens. It’s easier said than done to undergo a lot of rehab, but there’s a lot of time left in his career. We’re going to be there through it all.

Curry sat on the Oracle Arena hardwood in disbelief as Thompson tore his ACL in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals.

This time it was not in the same building when Thompson suffered his injury. But it is clear that the emotion was exactly the same.
